Pujols? We don't need no stinkin' Pujols

Let's do a little comparison shall we.

After 7 games the very early stats for King Albert of the Cardinals and Nelson Cruz of the Rangers matchup like this.

Games-------------Pujols 7----------Cruz 7-----------Tie
Hits --------------- Pujols 11----------Cruz 11---------Tie
Runs --------------Pujols 8----------Cruz 7----------Pujols
Doubles------------Pujols 0----------Cruz 2-----------Cruz
Triples-------------Pujols 0----------Cruz 1-----------Cruz
RBIs---------------Pujols 14----------Cruz 11----------Pujols
Walks--------------Pujols 4-----------Cruz 4------------Tie
Ks-----------------Pujols 5-----------Cruz 4-----------Cruz
AVG.---------------Pujols .407--------Cruz .458---------Cruz
OBP----------------Pujols .484---------Cruz .533---------Cruz
SLG %--------------Pujols .963--------Cruz 1.250--------Cruz
OPS----------------Pujols 1.447--------Cruz 1.783--------Cruz
SB-----------------Pujols 0------------Cruz 0------------Tie

Cruz wins this competition hands down 7-2-4. Therefore, Cruz is better and Pujols sucks.
Just kidding, I would love, love, love to have Pujols at first base for my Rangers. No offense Chris Davis.
I hope Cruz can even be in the neighborhood of Pujols numbers by season's end. When you're a long suffering Rangers fan, you take victories where you can....no matter how small and meaningless.

  1. Cruz has been a nice addition to two of my fantasy teams, and since I don't have Pujols, I'm in total agreement with you.

Does Cruz have a nickname at all?

  2. I haven't heard any real nicknames for him. I did hear the local sports radio guys refer to him as NC17 today (his uni number is 17), but that's the first time I've heard that.
